Tara Elizabeth Conner (born on December 18, 1985 in Dallas, Texas) represented Kentucky during the nationally televised Miss USA 2006 pageant in Baltimore, Maryland on April 21, 2006. Making the semi-finals, she became the eighteenth woman to place at both Miss Teen USA and Miss USA. She competed in the official BSC Swimwear Thailand for the swimsuit competition and made the top ten, where she competed in the evening gown competition, wearing a specially designed gown by Sherri Hill. Conner then made the top five and completed the final interview round.

Kandace Gayle Krueger Matthews represented Texas in the Miss USA 2001 pageant broadcast live from Gary, Indiana in March 2001. She made the semi-finals, becoming the first Texan to make the top ten in two years, placed second in the swimsuit competition (9.38) and fourth in the evening gown competition (9.29). She entered the top five in second place, with an average combined score of 9.33. After the final interview round she was ranked second, but went on to win the pageant. Krueger was the eighth Miss USA titleholder, becoming the first Texan to win since Chelsi Smith in 1995, and extending Texas' record for the most titles.

Brandi Sherwood (born January 13, 1971) is an American model and pageant winner. She was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was Miss USA 1997 and (at age 18) Miss Teen USA 1989 and is a frequent rotating Barker's Beauty model on the US daytime television game show The Price Is Right.

In 1997, she won the Miss Idaho USA title and represented her state at Miss USA 1997. She became first runner up to eventual Miss USA, Brook Mahealani Lee. Sherwood assumed the Miss USA title when Lee was crowned Miss Universe 1997 in Miami. Sherwood held the titles of Miss Idaho Teen USA and Miss Idaho USA. To date, Sherwood is the only woman to have held the titles of both Miss Teen USA and Miss USA.

During her reign as Miss USA, Sherwood worked with Special Olympics. She has also worked with the DARE program and continues to volunteer her time speaking to students about resisting drugs and violence.

Chelsi Smith was born on August 23, 1973 in in Deer Park, TX to an African American father and a Caucasian mother. Her parents later moved to Redwood City, CA after her birth.

After becoming Miss USA, Smith travelled to Windhoek, Namibia to compete in the Miss Universe 1995 pageant, held at the Windhoek Country Club on May 12, 1995. She was again the highest placed contestant after the preliminary competitions, which propelled her into the top ten. During the final competition, she had the highest swimsuit score, placed third in interview and seventh in evening gown, but still remained the highest placed contestant overall. In the top six, she placed second in interview. After making the top three, Smith went on to win the Miss Universe title, the first Miss USA to win the title since Shawn Weatherly in 1980.

Shanna Lynn Moakler (born March 28, 1975) is an American model, actress, reality television star and a former beauty queen. She was the winner of the Miss New York USA pageant in 1995 and was eventually crowned as Miss USA 1995, following the resignation of Chelsi Smith. Moakler began modeling at age 15 and was later chosen as a Playmate of the Month for Playboy magazine in December 2001.

Moakler served as co-director for the Miss California USA pageant until May 13, 2009.

Shannon LaRhea Marketic (born January 14, 1971), is a beauty queen from Phoenix, Arizona who became Miss USA 1992. In 1997 she filed a lawsuit against a prince of the ruling family of Brunei, alleging that he had compelled her into performing sexual acts for guests at a party he organized.

Marketic was crowned Miss Arizona Teen USA 1989 but held the title for only a week and a half after it was discovered an error had been made and she had actually placed first runner-up.

A few years later, she became Miss California USA 1992, and went on to represent California in the 1992 Miss USA pageant, which was broadcast live from Wichita, Kansas in February 1992. Marketic entererd the top 6 with the third highest semi-finals average score. After answering the judges' questions, she went into the final 3 in second place and eventually winning the 1992 crown. She also won the Miss Photogenic award.

Marketic went on to compete in the 1992 Miss Universe pageant held in Bangkok, Thailand on May 8 and was one of 10 semifinalists who competed for the title. She eventually placed 8th overall.

Carole Anne-Marie Gist (born c. 1970) was the first African American woman to win the Miss USA title. Gist first won the title of Miss Michigan USA and went on to win the Miss USA crown on March 2, 1990 in Wichita, Kansas.

The 1990 pageant had representatives from Georgia (Brenda Leithleiter), Alaska (Karin Elizabeth Meyer), Kentucky (Tiffany Tenfelde), South Carolina (Gina Tolleson, who as 1st runner-up then went on to represent the country at the Miss World pageant, winning the title) and Karin Hartz of New Jersey making up with Gist the Top 6 finalists.

Courtney Ann Gibbs (born August 20, 1966) was born in Dallas, Texas. After winning Miss Texas USA, she won the Miss USA title in 1988. She was the 4th of five Texans to win consecutively from 1985 to 1989.

At the 1988 Miss Universe pageant, Gibbs won the preliminary contests, placing 1st overall, but was placed 8th on finals night, with the crown going to Thailand's Porntip Nakhirunkanok.

Michelle Royer (born January 5, 1966) was crowned Miss Texas USA and went on to win the title Miss USA.

Royer was the 3rd of five consecutive winners from Texas, known as the Texas Aces. At the 1987 Miss Universe pageant, she won the preliminary competition, but on finals night, she finished 2nd runner-up to Cecilia Bolocco of Chile.

Michelle Royer is married to "Banana Don" Jefferson, morning on-air personality at country-formatted radio station WITL-FM in Lansing, Michigan. The pair met during an appearance when Royer made a stop in Pittsburgh shortly after winning her Miss USA title.

Mai Therese Shanley (born c. 1963), Miss New Mexico USA, Miss USA 1984 is a former beauty queen. Her mother is ethnically Han Chinese and is from Taiwan, while her father is Irish American.

Shanley's first pageant experience came when she represented New Mexico in the Miss America pageant in 1983. She did not place in that pageant.

Later, Shanley became the first Eurasian delegate to win Miss USA. She was 21 at the time she was crowned the 33rd Winner at the pageant held in Lakeland, Florida, on May 17, 1984. She also edged out two former Miss America state titleholders in the top five, Kelly Anderson (Miss West Virginia 1982) and Desiree Denise Daniels (Miss Tennessee 1982), who placed second and third, respectively.

Summer Robin Bartholomew (born November 20, 1951 in Merced, California) is a model and actress who won the 1975 Miss USA pageant.

Her first pageant experience came in 1973 when she won the Miss Oktoberfest title.

Summer Bartholomew then won the Miss California USA title in 1975 and went on to win the Miss USA crown. She competed at the 1975 Miss Universe pageant held in El Salvador and placed second-runner up to winner Anne Marie Pohtamo of Finland. Bartholomew also served as a judge for the Miss USA pageant in 1977 and 1982.

Her career in the game show world is also known. She become the hostess of the game show Sale of the Century in 1984 after a brief period of trying out for hostess/letter turner on Wheel of Fortune in 1982 (although she substituted briefly in 1979 for then-hostess Susan Stafford). She lost the audition to Vanna White. She also appeared in the film Love is Forever, with Michael Landon and Priscilla Presley. Deborah 'Debbie' Shelton (born November 21, 1948) is an American beauty queen and actress.

Shelton was born in Washington, D.C. and grew up in Norfolk, Virginia. She graduated from Norview High School and attended Old Dominion University. Shelton first won the Miss Virginia USA title and was subsequently crowned Miss USA in May 1970. She then went on to the Miss Universe contest in Miami, Florida the same year where she placed first runner-up to Marisol Malaret of Puerto Rico.

In March 1974, she appeared on the cover of Playboy Magazine. She later starred in the 1984 film Body Double and made frequent guest appearances on television shows such as Fantasy Island, The A-Team, T. J. Hooker, The Fall Guy, Cheers, The Love Boat and Riptide. In 2008 she was cast to play a rich housewife in the American TV series Nip/Tuck.

Her most notable television performance is the role of Mandy Winger, one of J. R. Ewing's more memorable mistresses in Dallas. Shelton appeared in the series from 1984 to 1987.

In July that year, Hitchcock became the fourth woman from the United States to win the Miss Universe title, and for the first time, one of her runners-up was to be chosen to complete her reign as Miss USA. The first runner-up, Miss California USA 1967, Susan Ellen Bradley, was supposed to take over the Miss USA title, however she declined the title, which meant Patton became Miss USA 1967. This is the only time that the first runner-up has not inherited the reign of the original titleholder.

Patton's reign as Miss USA was the first, and as of 2009 only, time that a Floridian has held the title.

Maria Reminyi was a junior at the University of California at Berkeley, majoring in high energy physics, when she became the first representative of a dormitory to win the campus Miss Beauty contest. Less than a year later she won the Miss California Universe title and went on to become California's second representative to achieve the title of Miss USA. She was a semifinalist in the Miss Universe contest. She later moved to Vermont and has a career in real estate.

Johnson later worked as an applications engineer in the computer department of General Electric.

Leona Gage (born Mary Leona Gage in 1939, Longview, Texas), won the title of Miss USA in 1957, representing the state of Maryland. The next day, she was stripped of her crown when it was revealed that she was married and the mother of two children. She had also lied about her age and was only 18, not 21.

At the time, the Miss USA and the Miss Universe pageants took place at the same time in Long Beach, California. Gage had competed in the Miss Universe preliminary and had been already announced as a Miss Universe semifinalist when she was deposed. Her successor, Charlotte Sheffield of Utah, failed to qualify for semi-finals because she did not take part in the preliminary judging. The vacant spot went to Miss Argentina, Mónica Lamas.

Charlotte Sheffield (born c. 1937) is Miss USA 1957.

After winning the Miss Utah USA crown, Sheffield, from Salt Lake City, Utah went on to become Utah's first representative to achieve the title of Miss USA, when Mary Leona Gage was stripped of her title days later during the Miss Universe 1957 competition. Sheffield was not allowed to compete for the Miss Universe crown, as she had already missed the preliminary competition. Sheffield went on to compete at the 1957 Miss World pageant, but failed to place.

As Catalina was the major sponsor of the pageant in its early years, the tie-breaking judgment finally came down to who has the better physical figure, which went to Miriam's favor, for she had the "fitter" hips over Martha Rocha.

Martha Rocha got the car that Stevenson won in her Miss USA prize package as a consolatory prize.

Stevenson was also Miss South Carolina 1953 as her state's delegate to the Miss America pageant.

She was chosen a runner-up in the Miss Universe contest of 1953. Hedda Hopper reported in March 1954 that Hansen should have been awarded the Miss Universe title. The winner, Christiane Martel of France, was exposed as having been only seventeen when she won. Her minor status was disclosed when Martel applied for a marriage license to wed Ronnie Marengo.

In January 1954 Hansen accompanied Martel in the sixty-fifth annual Tournament of Roses Parade. They were aboard the float (parade) entitled American Heritage. It was an entry of the city of Long Beach, California. Adorned by cupids and thousands of white orchids and chrysanthemums, the float captured the sweepstakes prize.

This was the first time the pageant was held in Pasadena, although it was the sixth time the pageant was held in California. It was broadcast from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.

The event was hosted by Mario Lopez, who also hosted Miss Teen USA 1998 and Miss Teen USA 2003. In 2007 he also hosted the Miss America and Miss Universe pageants. The pageant was broadcast on NBC at 8:00 p.m. EST, rather than at 9:00 p.m. EST.

Miss Teen USA 2006, the 24th Miss Teen USA pageant, was televised live from Palm Springs Convention Center, Palm Springs, California on August 15, 2006. The pageant was won by Katie Blair of Montana.

For the third time, the pageant was hosted by Palm Springs. It had previously been held there in 2003 and 2004. On August 10, the 51 contestants competed in a preliminary presentation show where they were judged in swimsuits and evening gowns. Scores from this judging will determine the top 15 on the live telecast on August 15, 2006.

At the conclusion of the final competition, Katie Blair of Montana was crowned by outgoing titleholder Allie LaForce of Ohio. This was the first year that Montana made the initial cut in the competition, and until this pageant Montana was the only state which had not placed. This is the first major pageant title won by a delegate from Montana.

Miss Teen USA 2002, the 20th Miss Teen USA pageant, was televised live from South Padre Island, Texas on 28 August 2002. At the conclusion of the final competition, Miss Wisconsin Teen USA Vanessa Marie Semrow was crowned by outgoing queen Marissa Whitley of Missouri.

This was the second consecutive year that the pageant was held on South Padre Island, although it had also been held there in 1997.

Semrow was only the second teenager from Wisconsin to place in the pageant, and the first to win the title. The state's previous placement was in 1984.

In the years after the pageant, two delegates who competed at Miss Teen USA 2002 went on to win the Miss USA title. The class of 2002 is the first to produce two Miss USA winners. The first was Tara Conner of Kentucky, who placed second runner-up at Miss Teen USA 2002 and won the Miss USA 2006 pageant; she was followed by Rachel Smith of Tennessee (semi-finalist and Miss Photogenic at Miss Teen USA) who won Miss USA 2007. Both placed fourth runner-up in the Miss Universe pageant. A third contestant, fourth runner-up Kimberly Harlan of Georgia, competed at Miss World 2003 but did not place.

1990 marked the year that Oregon won the pageant for the second of three times in the history of the pageant. No other state has won more than one Miss Teen USA title, making Oregon the only one with three crowns: Mindy Duncan in 1988, Bridgette Wilson in 1990 and Tami Farrell in 2003.

This was the first year the pageant was held at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, where it would be held for the following four years.

Miss Teen USA 1984, the 2nd Miss Teen USA pageant, was televised live from Memphis, Tennessee on 3 April, 1984. At the conclusion of the final competition, Cherise Haugen of Illinois was crowned by outgoing queen Ruth Zakarian of New York.

This was the second time a Miss USA or Miss Teen USA pageant had been held in Tennessee, after the Miss USA 1983 pageant had been staged in Knoxville the year before. Neither pageant has returned to the state since. This was the only time that the Miss Teen USA pageant was held in April.
